Cover Story

Cover Story by Celia Laskey is the story of a new Hollywood star and her publicist.

A hilarious, emotional love story about an extremely anxious publicist who's tasked with keeping an extremely gay starlet in the closet - but who ends up falling for her instead.

It's 2005, and Ali is a publicist for Hollywood's biggest stars. Part of her job entails keeping gay celebrities in the closet-which is pretty ironic, since she's a lesbian herself.

When Ali is assigned a new client, Cara Bisset, upcoming star of a (hetero) romantic blockbuster, keeping Cara's sexuality under wraps becomes Ali's biggest challenge yet.

Bold, unpredictable Cara hates that she has to hide such an integral aspect of her identity, and after a series of increasingly close calls, Ali is sent on her worldwide promotional tour to help with her image. Instead, she finds herself drawn to Cara's confidence and bravery.

For the past year, Ali has been consumed by grief after unexpectedly losing her partner. But with Cara, Ali's fears about the world subside, and she begins to question the Hollywood closeting system that she contributes to.

Laskey has written an entertaining love story. Great beach read.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a wonderful story of a Hollywood starlet.

The Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, one of the biggest stars in the history of tinsel town, has been out of the limelight for years. Now she is donating some of her most iconic dresses to auction.

Monique Grant is a writer / journalist working at Vivant magazine. Her editor is shocked when Monique is requested to interview Hugo. No one has interviewed her since her starlet days. Now in her eighties she is considered a recluse.

What follows is the story of Evelyn Hugo's life - in more detail than any other source has ever had access to. Told in chapters of her life - based on the time with seven different husbands - this is the glamourous life all fans crave.

Taylor Jenkins Reid has written a wonderful tale of a very full life. There are twists and turns, love and scandal. I absolutely love this book. Read it today!

Everything Leads to You

Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour is a the story of a mystery in the middle of a Hollywood movie.

Emi and Charlotte are best friends. They are days away from graduating from high school and are already working as interns on a movie. Emi is helping with set design and Charlotte is assistant to the art director.

For the final piece of furniture to complete the room Emi is designing herself, she needs the perfect sofa. Among the many garage and estate sales, Emi finds herself in the home of the iconic actor Clyde Jones - the biggest star of the American Western.

As huge fans, Emi and Char pick out a belt buckle (for Emi's brother Toby) and a Patsy Cline record. When they get back to Toby's apartment to play the record they get two surprises: Toby is giving them his apartment for two months while he scouts locations in Europe with the promise that something epic happens while he is gone. And a letter falls out of the Patsy Cline record.

A letter addressed to Caroline Maddox, in the handwriting of Clyde Jones - to be delivered in the event of his death - sends Emi and Char on a mystery. It will not be as simple as going to the address on the envelope - Caroline Maddox has not lived there for at least three years.

LaCour has created a lovely novel with elements of mystery, romance, movie magic, friendship and more, peopled with great characters. She made a book about LA and Hollywood, neither of which I am remotely interested in, into a delightful story.
